Bethesda E3 2015: Fallout 4 and Fallout Shelter

Last night was Bethesda‘s first E3 conference and let me just say they set the bar pretty high for the rest of the convention. The only game that stood out for me, although they all looked awesome, was Fallout 4. I know absolutely nothing about the franchise and I’ve never played a Fallout game before, but they managed to still get me all hyped about Fallout 4! Here’s what we know:

For the first time the game starts before the nuclear bomb falls. That time seems to be for character customisation. You can chose the sex of your character and change his/her look completely. Then you get a visit from a guy needing to fill out a form to let you in the vault and this is where you chose your stats. After a bit of exploring, you hear the alarm warning you the bomb is coming. You run to the vault and get inside for safety. You wake up 200 years later as the sole survivor of Vault 111.

In the game, you can go anywhere you want and do what ever you want. When you find the dog, you can give it commands and things can get triggered by the dog. For the first time ever, you have a layered armor. On the Pip-boy, you can listen to tapes and even play game tapes.

They decided to put a new feature in the game where you can scrap materials in the world and use them to build other things. So you can make yourself a shelter and decorate it how ever you want. You can even make a dog house! You just have to be carefull because your shelter will get ambushed. Lastly, they made 50 base weapons that have over 700 possible modifications. You can also modify your power armor.

In the Collector’s Edition, you will receive an actual Pip-boy! You can put your phone in it and run their Pip-boy app (that will be coming out at the same time as the game)! No worries though, you can still get the Pip-boy app on your phone without buying the Collector’s Edition. One of the most exciting part of this presentation is the fact that Fallout 4 is actually going to come out November 10th 2015!

Another thing they presented that I’m really excited about is Fallout Shelter. This is a mobile game, currently available on iOS and we’ll have news later on it coming on Android. In this game you make your own vault; you are the overseer. You need to make sure everyone is happy by giving them food and clothes and other things. You can even make them have babies! You can make different kind of rooms that teach different skills. For example, a bar teaches the social skill (unless that was a joke he was making), a classroom is for intelligence and a gym is for strenght. You can give weapons to your residents and send them on missions to get resources. Of course your vault isn’t immune to accidents, so you may have to deal with roaches, attacks from outsiders and more.

This mobile game is everything we’ve been waiting for. It’s free, no need for an internet connection, no pay-wall (although there is a reward mecanism with lunch boxes that you can buy if you want, but it is in no way needed to continue the game) and the rooms build instantly so no waiting time! I will definitely be getting it once it’s on Android!
