In Whack Job by Mike Baron world leaders start bursting into flames for no apparent reason. The FBI having no clue what’s going on, they bring in an ex-agent Otto White who has seen one of the combustions with his own eyes to try and figure out what’s going on and stop it.
In my opinion, the story is interesting, but it just takes so long to have something actually happen that progresses the story that I just got bored while reading it (which is why it took me so long to finish it). The story finally got interesting at about 70% of the book where we finally get to know what’s going on and the action picks up as Otto starts making his plan to end the combustions. I wasn’t quite satisfied with the ending because we don’t exactly know what happens to Otto. I’m not a fan of stories that leave the ending up for interpretation. I like to know exactly how it ends haha. Oh and there was an arc to the story that never really got it’s answer…
All in all, it was a good story, but for most of the book it felt more like a crime fiction that was slow to pick up the action.
Like I announced last month, this month’s book is going to be Ocean by Brian Herbert and Jan Herbert.
To give you time to prepare, the month after that I’ll be reading The Godmakers by Frank Herbert.
